Christmas is over…..
And we recorded our second busiest day since opening day and to get through it all, feels absolutely brilliant! While many people may be winding down after the busy period, I’m just getting started and have been going what feels like 100miles an hour for the past couple of weeks.
Why so busy?
Our Back to School promotion has just kicked off and after some good solid work from my team, our promotions area is looking full and fantastic. We’re selling all sorts of stationery bits and pieces. To be honest, I never imagined there could be so many different items for back to school purposes. Because we are a local store, we’re not ranged for furniture but after a couple of emails, we now have a small selection of furniture to keep our customers happy. It seems to be working because we’ve sold a few bookcases and ordered in some more!
So with the above promotion all set up, what else could I possibly spend my time doing? One word. S t o c k t a k e.
Yes, it’s that time of year for us to count every single item in our store. And being our first ever stocktake, it’s going to be great fun. I’ve been given the opportunity to plan and run the whole stocktake, so I hope to make it as smooth as possible for everyone involved. It’s been pretty exciting setting up the store map and numbering the whole store so we can count everything in different locations. I’ve also been organising more teams from other stores to come and help as well as having to do weekly checklists to make sure we’re on track to have everything organised before we start counting.
Next week I have a visit from our Regional Manager and Regional Profit Protection Manager to ensure we are prepared and ready to go. I know it’ll involve some long days and long nights but, with me being a night owl, I can’t wait! I also get to spend a weekend at Oamaru helping with their stocktake as well as a weekend in our South Dunedin store to run things while their management team is involved in doing their stocktake. South Dunedin is a very big store, and one of the top stores in the country, so having this chance is HUGE! I’m pretty nervous but really excited as well.
So I best be off to add some finishing touches to my planning and next time I write, I can tell you about how successful everything turned out.
