Kirsten

Hi I'm Kirsten. I currently live in Palmerston North in NZ.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing Management and a Diploma in Computer Graphic Design, well, most of the degree really if I ever go back to finish a couple of papers!! Ha Ha.

I love anything involving water and until I embarked on study at Otago Uni, I was a competitive tenpin bowler who was ranked quite well amongst my peers - I might add. Now that I have a career and can afford it, I have started it up again.

I'm a big of a geek really - interested in all things design, art and gadget related. But in saying that, I think I'm a pretty cool geek.

My favourite Warehouse product would have to be the Harrison and Lane range. I love them, good solid products that not only look great, but last too.

So come on, read my blog. Find out what life at The Warehouse for a Store Manager Development Programme participant is really like. Learn about my challenges as well as the awesome friendships and opportunities I get along the way.

Ask me questions, I'm not shy.

Okay, so I’ve come to the conclusion that this year is moving far too quickly for my liking.

Although in saying that, it does mean Christmas comes sooner and compared to when I was a kid, when it seemed to take ages, Christmas appears to get closer and closer as I get older. Or is it just because this year, I’ve taken charge of setting up the Christmas promotional space in Mosgiel?

October has been a very busy month. We had our store refit and I was lucky enough to pick up the stationery and craft department, although I did lose my hardware and automotive department. Mosgiel also now has a larger clothing department, stocking the younger fashions such as Garage and Urban Equipment. This is so exciting, especially for a young woman like myself!

As mentioned above, I was given the opportunity to take charge of Xmas planning which for Mosgiel, due to space restrictions, also included planning for Labour Day, Halloween, and Guy Fawkes. Now, with all those promotions finished, it’s full steam ahead with Xmas. Hopefully I’ve done it well enough to earn a gold rating when it gets checked off in a few days!

We had the “company head honchos” come down to visit our store recently to see what we were doing with the place, and, well, it was brilliant. They gave us some great feedback not only around our efforts in making the store look so great, but also for the team. We were stoked to have them so happy with us!

Through all the craziness this month, I’ve still managed to stay on top of my SMDP requirements. Would love to tell you all about it, but it would take forever.

I want to finish off this month with something pretty awesome… The Warehouse was supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month throughout October in which we all wore pink shirts and sold pens, bags, and teddy bears, amongst other items. A challenge was issued to stores to see who could sell the most pens in comparison to transaction count and I’m happy to say, Mosgiel came out as number1! So while we may be a little store, we are definitely a force to be reckoned with.
