Kirsten

Hi I'm Kirsten. I currently live in Palmerston North in NZ.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing Management and a Diploma in Computer Graphic Design, well, most of the degree really if I ever go back to finish a couple of papers!! Ha Ha.

I love anything involving water and until I embarked on study at Otago Uni, I was a competitive tenpin bowler who was ranked quite well amongst my peers - I might add. Now that I have a career and can afford it, I have started it up again.

I'm a big of a geek really - interested in all things design, art and gadget related. But in saying that, I think I'm a pretty cool geek.

My favourite Warehouse product would have to be the Harrison and Lane range. I love them, good solid products that not only look great, but last too.

So come on, read my blog. Find out what life at The Warehouse for a Store Manager Development Programme participant is really like. Learn about my challenges as well as the awesome friendships and opportunities I get along the way.

Ask me questions, I'm not shy.

Wow! What a holiday! I’m so relaxed I could probably go for a few years without an extended holiday now.

We landed in Thailand and as soon as I stepped off the plane, I knew it was going to be a hot, humid holiday. The plane ride was good fun, individual screens that had games, movies, tv shows, and even an application to learn different languages. I now know some very basic Thai words.

The holiday was fantastic, 2 ½ weeks in Phuket in which we saw some shows, went snorkelling, visited ‘The Beach’ (actual name is Maya Bay), fed monkeys, was blessed by a monk at the Buddha which overlooks Phuket (being built since the tsunami a few years ago), saw cobras, touched snakes, lizards, elephants and eagles. The best part of Phuket was the relaxed atmosphere. I finally bought a watch on our last day there, as until then, I felt no need to know the time. Who needs to know the time when you’re lazing by the pool or wandering along a fabulous beach? Not me!

Next stop of the holiday was Bangkok, where we spent 9 days. The hotel we stayed in has a marketplace underneath, across the road and down the road. In fact, every road had market stalls at some point or another of the day or night. Lucky for us, we were only a block away from the ladies mall (fashion mall) and the IT mall. These were AMAZING! The ladies mall is probably just about every woman’s dream. 7 floors of fashion and accessories while the IT mall is every computer geeks dream, with 7 floors of nothing but technology – from software and gaming to computer repairs. We also managed to catch a river boat to Mall 2 which was about 4 floors and the bottom floor had a little river coming from the waterfall above. In it were stingrays, catfish, and carp, as well as macaws on an island. The best though would have to have been MBK, the size of at least 4 rugby fields and 7 floors high.

But enough about my holiday. I’m back at work now. Oh, did I mention I spent 45 minutes playing with 6 week old tiger cubs? No? I didn’t mention that? Well, I did and being a tiger lover from since I was knee high to a grasshopper, it made my life complete. But enough about that, what lies ahead?

I’m just finishing my first week back and it’s full on with me trying to figure out what sold well, what hasn’t and learning about Invigorate (a change project) and the excitement brought about from that. We had a visit from some of our executive team which went well and I’m slowly coming to terms with being back in the cold of Mosgiel. It feels great to be back at work. I’ve actually missed the place and the guys have done well while I’ve been away, managing to get most things done!

But hey, after wandering around the store, I’ve come to the conclusion; our store needs a woman’s touch!
