Guess what?
A couple of hours after I wrote my last blog, I received a much awaited phone call. That phone call informed me that I’m now the new Sales Team Leader in our Mosgiel store! Mosgiel is a brand new store located just out of Dunedin. It’s due to open on July 23. I’ve been down here just over a week now and thankfully, after having lived in Dunedin previously, it isn’t taking too much for me to adjust to the much colder temperatures.
So I finished up my Nightfill Team Leader role in Palmerston North, said goodbye to my team and others I’d worked with, bought a cake or two for the guys to enjoy, packed up a car load of belongings, and started the long drive South. For those who’ve never experienced the beauty of driving down the coast of the South Island, I suggest you give it a go at some point, as it’s absolutely beautiful!
I arrived in Dunedin on the Sunday and began work on the Monday morning. I haven’t had a moment to myself since starting. So far we’ve trained and inducted new team members, met existing Warehouse team members who are coming to Mosgiel from other stores and had visits from all sorts of people from planners to Ian Morrice (our CEO) and Richard Lewis (our COO) - which was pretty exciting to see what their thoughts were on progress with the store so far. Every day brings something different from working out what products we need to be selling, to even seeing the lighting and signage go up on the outside of the store! This has to be one opportunity I’m glad I applied for. I couldn’t imagine anything more exciting at this stage of my career than helping and being involved with setting up a new store!
It’s going to be a very exciting next few weeks as we go full steam ahead towards opening day. After opening day I’ll be in charge of Sales in Head to Toe (that’s apparel, footwear and accessories), Toys, Sporting, Manchester, basically everything except grocery and entertainment, which goes to our Service Team Leader Gary to be in charge of.
I can’t wait until we open.
