Kirsten

Hi I'm Kirsten. I currently live in Palmerston North in NZ.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing Management and a Diploma in Computer Graphic Design, well, most of the degree really if I ever go back to finish a couple of papers!! Ha Ha.

I love anything involving water and until I embarked on study at Otago Uni, I was a competitive tenpin bowler who was ranked quite well amongst my peers - I might add. Now that I have a career and can afford it, I have started it up again.

I'm a big of a geek really - interested in all things design, art and gadget related. But in saying that, I think I'm a pretty cool geek.

My favourite Warehouse product would have to be the Harrison and Lane range. I love them, good solid products that not only look great, but last too.

So come on, read my blog. Find out what life at The Warehouse for a Store Manager Development Programme participant is really like. Learn about my challenges as well as the awesome friendships and opportunities I get along the way.

Ask me questions, I'm not shy.

But wait, there’s more….

When I last wrote, I was a few months into my first phase 2 role as Nightfill Team Leader for Palmerston North. As it’s a big store, it comes with some big challenges, which luckily for me, has meant some great learnings.

I’ve managed my team through some process changes that, with some initial resistance, have achieved some good results. We’ve implemented a new Shelf Edge Labelling (SEL) system in stores which means all products now have a price and description label on the shelf where they sit.  So hopefully when you next shop at one of our stores, you will see straight away, what a product will cost you. Another big change was a move for the nightfill team to stock fill the clothing department – something which they have not done previously.  We’ve been doing this for a month now and have had some great results in sales.

The biggest highlight has been the opportunity to attend stocktake at the Feilding store. So those who’ve read last month’s blog, you’ll understand why I found this to be such a highlight. Having learned about the business from those at Feilding, it was an amazing experience to go back to the store for 6 days to work with them once again - it was just brilliant. From helping with training (and seeing an old friend from school after 10yrs - small world!) to making sure we were making sufficient progress and marking it off – it was a great few days!  And I even got time to spend time with the Regional Profit Protection Manager who showed me the importance of process.

Over the last month I’ve put in a fair amount of effort into completing my required action plans for SMDP.  Thankfully, as they are a part of everyday processes, it means I’m almost complete and have started applying for roles to go into the second part of Phase 2. How exciting!  So the next time you hear from me, fingers crossed, I should be in another part of the country facing many more challenges.
