Kirsten

Hi I'm Kirsten. I currently live in Palmerston North in NZ.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing Management and a Diploma in Computer Graphic Design, well, most of the degree really if I ever go back to finish a couple of papers!! Ha Ha.

I love anything involving water and until I embarked on study at Otago Uni, I was a competitive tenpin bowler who was ranked quite well amongst my peers - I might add. Now that I have a career and can afford it, I have started it up again.

I'm a big of a geek really - interested in all things design, art and gadget related. But in saying that, I think I'm a pretty cool geek.

My favourite Warehouse product would have to be the Harrison and Lane range. I love them, good solid products that not only look great, but last too.

So come on, read my blog. Find out what life at The Warehouse for a Store Manager Development Programme participant is really like. Learn about my challenges as well as the awesome friendships and opportunities I get along the way.

Ask me questions, I'm not shy.

I was a Store Manager for 2 weeks……..

Right, so I’ve discovered in the past 2 weeks that it is one thing to run your own store when the manager is away, but it’s a completely different ball game running someone else’s store!

That’s right.  I was given the opportunity to run another store for 2 weeks while their manager was away. What an experience! To be accountable for everything that happens really is a step up from being an ASM, where you have the Store Manager as a type of safety net so to speak. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 weeks, got to know some of the team, did some merchandising, got some great feedback and learned a massive amount! The best thing is, that these great learnings will only make me a better manager when I get my own store.

This week saw Mark Powell, our CEO, visiting our store and it was great to show off the progress Wanganui has made.  It was even better to have the team get some time to talk to him.

Christmas is just around the corner and we have started all our set up of various parts of it which is great.  Can you believe Christmas is less than 3 months away? Scary! Exciting! I am so looking forward to it.  All our plans and space maps are all in place. Unfortunately it means I have a gloating Store Manager who is stoked. I understand more now the importance of having planning done well before implementation dates. In fact, all my planning and space maps were ready from Father’s Day until Mid January! Talk about prepared!

So the big focus at the moment is nailing sales and getting those customers in the door. Christmas is our great opportunity to make an impression and the whole team is looking forward to a standout season that eclipses all previous Christmas’s!
